Australia
Owned by THE Irwins, the Crocodile Hunter's passion project is an amazing and educational experience where animals come first.
The Australia Zoo was founded in 1970 by conservationists Bob and Lyn Irwin, and was run with help from the son Steve. That's right, that Steve. The Crocodile Hunter. In the 1990s, Steve and his wife Terri took over the zoo, and thanks to the success of the Crocodile Hunter Series, were able to expand and improve the facilities. Even after Steve's death, Terri and her children, Bindi and Robert (who were both homeschooled at the zoo), kept the legacy alive. Thousands of animals call the Australia Zoo home, and here you'll see birds, reptiles and mammals thriving in natural enclosures. But as we all know from Steve's work, education is the key to conservation, so there are plenty of hands-on opportunities. Feed a kangaroo, take a selfie with a koala, play with a red panda, pet a rhino. There are literally dozens of unforgettable encounters to be had. Learn more at australiazoo.com.au
