This gallery supports local women and their communities by promoting the production of traditional handicrafts.
The Bani Hamida Weaving Centre & Gallery was founded in 1985 by the Save the Children Federation to preserve the Bedouin rug weaving tradition and support women in local communities. Since its inception, over 1650 women have benefited from spinning, weaving, and dying rugs the old fashioned way. Located in a traditional, one-story home, weavers welcome visitors to the center to share their stories and offer the take part in weaving their own carpet or basket. More than just a souvenir shop, the products offered here offer the opportunity to bring back a meaningful piece of Jordanian tradition and support the locals - a nearby girls’ school was partly funded thanks to the project!
