Barbian Waterfalls

A wild, romantic footpath leads to this mountain stream that cascades over a series of stone cliffs.

About

From March 1st to November 1st, this natural phenomenon in South Tyrol is open for exploring. The round trip leads to the Barbiano Cascades, and to the hamlet of Trechiese, a well known healing place set amidst quiescence and simplicity. The trek to Trechiese reveals three Gothic chapels that have been combined into a single church, erected at a pre-Roman spring sanctuary. The mist generated by the falls is renowned for creating a refreshing, healing atmosphere. An easy walk from Barbian takes you to the foot of the first waterfall, which, with a drop of 85 meters, is the best-known in South Tyrol. At its base, a jumble of room-sized stones slowly surrender to the mighty force of erosion.
