Spain
Originally founded by the Romans, this meticulously designed Mediterranean metropolis stands proud alongside its global sporting powerhouse, FC Barcelona.
Crossing the mouths of River Besós and Llobregat, Barcelona is a sightseer's delight. With mesmerizing landmarks on every corner, start at the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc, a beautiful gateway into the birthplace of Barça. Standing boldly in the backdrop of this wondrous display is Montjuïc. With museums, galleries, botanic gardens, and castles, there’s a lot to explore atop this hill of history! From here, head along the harbor, past the towering Columbus Column, and into the Gothic Quarter. Within, you’ll find some of the city’s oldest icons like the historical Roman Walls and beautiful Barcelona Cathedral. Stroll along the winding streets and you will soon find yourself along the iconic boulevard Las Ramblas, full of restaurants, street artists, and shops. At the top of Las Ramblas, you will find the lively Plaça de Catalunya in the city’s heart which leads onto the tree-lined avenue of Passeig de Gracia, famously housing the extraordinary architecture of Antoni Gaudi. Both former residences that Gaudi renovated, Casa Batlló and Casa Milá, are located here. Now they are UNESCO World Heritage Sites open to the public and completely dedicated to their designer. Barcelona really was Gaudi’s grand workshop. From Casa Milá, you can continue North, to beautiful Parc Guell, where his vibrant mosaics and enchanting designs are all around. Or follow Calle de Provença, for the climax of your trip and Gaudi’s most famous masterpiece, La Sagrada Familia!
