Bardejov

The picturesque town of Bardejov in North-East Slovakia is famous for its fully intact medieval center and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

About

Bardejov has one of the most beautifully preserved town centers in the country with the cobbled main square and Baroque buildings. Standing alone in the middle of the square is the Old Town Hall, which contains the town museum. This is where visitors can learn more of the town’s history and check out the visual evidence of how little the town square has changed over the last 100 years. Visitors will be surprised to discover that for an attractive town with such a whimsical ambience, Bardejov has quiet a dark side to its history. However, the dominant building in the square is the Church of St. Egidus, which with its Gothic-revival interior, huge main altar and eleven smaller winged altars on either side of the highly detailed pews makes it difficult to know what aspect to focus on first. For amazing views of the town then the climb up the spiral staircase to the top of the tower is more than worth the effort.
