Barranco de las Vacas

Translated to English as “Ravine of the Cows”, this canyon is unique for its colorful layers of rock made from volcanic ash and naturally carved by water.

About

Hidden away in mountainous Southeast Gran Canaria is the small yet spectacular volcanic rock formation known as Barrando de las Vacas. This natural beauty spot is similar to the famous Antelope Canyon in the US, although in Europe it is a one-of-a-kind marvel! The multicolored layers of rock have been formed by volcanic ash and over time the formation has been smoothed by water, creating naturally curved walls with pretty lines in vibrant shades of red, orange, yellow, and white. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes, as to get down to the dream-like canyon, you will need to walk down from the road into the ravine. Once you are down in the canyon itself, you will be in awe of the beautiful formations and their colors, unbelievably created by nature. Don’t forget your camera to take some out-of-this-world shots of this hidden gem!
