Greece
It was here that 300 Spartans, and a handful of other soldiers, held off the Persian army in one of the most famous battles in history.
Nearly 2500 years ago, King Leonidas of Sparta led 7,000 men to Thermopylae Pass to stop the Persian army, which ancient sources numbered at 1,000,000. Using the landscape to their advantage, the Greek forces battled the Persians for 3 days, with the King leading his men to everlasting glory in one of the most famous last stands in history. The battle has become synonymous with bravery and sacrifice. To commemorate the event, Greek authorities built an information center explaining every detail of the battle to visitors. The museum uses modern technology like 3D projection to make history come alive.
