Learn about two of Cyprus' most treasured traditions at this charming rural museum
Located in the mountainous village of Kato Drys in the Larnaca region, the Bee & Embroidery Museum is dedicated to showcasing the traditional industries and pastimes of the local people. The museum’s collection includes over 1000 exhibits, many of which are dedicated to beekeeping and Lefkaritika, local embroidery style included in the UNESCO Intangible World Heritage List. On a guided tour, you can also observe traditional food preparation techniques such as baking bread, drying figs and making fig pies, winemaking and the distillation process of Zivania, a popular Cypriot style brandy. Depending on the season, there are also hands-on activities such as grape, olive or almond picking, enjoy a cup of local coffee, or purchase locally-made honey, olives, wine, and carob products.
