Bellapais Abbey was built in the 13th century by Augustinian monks, and served as a significant cultural and religious center for the region. during the Middle Ages. Its name "Bellapais," is derived from the French for "Beautiful Peace," and it lives up to the name. Constructed from white local limestone, the abbey comprises several structures, including a church, refectory, dormitory, and storage rooms, all grouped around an inner courtyard. color of the abbey's stones is a result of using abundant local limestone. Although natural disasters have damaged the site over time, authorities have worked to restore and preserve its beauty and historical significance. Within the abbey grounds, you'll find a museum, restaurant, and cafe, with the refectory serving as a venue for concerts and lectures. In early summer, the abbey is also a host for a local music festival. The abbey's opening hours are from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM from June to mid-September, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM to 4:45 PM during the winter, and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM from mid-September to May. There is an admission charge of 15 TL.
