The nuns at this idyllic convent live and work in a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Founded in 775, this convent still honours its original statement of purpose: devotion, contemplation and offering assistance to travellers. Aside from its scenic mountain setting and ancient architecture, the monastery particularly owes its World Heritage listing to the series of Carolingian murals from around 800 AD. Visitors can (and should) roam the rest of the grounds, including the flower garden and cemetery to soak in the convent’s serene atmosphere. True to their credo, the convent even offers space in the guest house for people who need a place to rest and recuperate from the stress of the modern world.
