Learn about Berber life and customs in a restored kasbah village filled with traditional artefacts.
The Berber Ecomuseum was the first ethnographic museum of its kind in Morocco. Inspired by France’s first ecomuseum, Patrick Man’ach and Hamid Megrani restored a historic kasbah using traditional Ourika valley techniques. They then filled the buildings with a collection of artifacts ranging from pottery to rugs, tools, and instruments. You can visit a variety of rooms in the Kasbah, including the private quarters of the chief while learning about life in the High Atlas. Don’t miss the stunning panoramic views of the Ourika river oasis and mountains from the village terrace. Visitors who really want to immerse themselves in Berber culture can even stay in the kasbah’s bed-and-breakfast, and the village offers guided tours of the surrounding area.
