The Bilbao Dunes are one of the greatest attractions in the municipality of Viesca, Coahuila, drawing visitors in with its endlessly rolling hills of sand. Standing in the sprawling dunes, you might feel as though you’re in a blockbuster film production, with the surreal and photogenic surroundings. In fact, they have served as a set for countless Mexican and foreign productions including Saving Private Pérez and Dragonball Evolution. In prehistoric times, the landscape was covered by sea. After it dried, and with the erosion of the surrounding mountains over thousands of years, the Bilbao Dunes were formed. During your time in the desert you may encounter unique insects and reptiles scuttling through the sand. Go for an enchanting desert walk and relish in the feeling of fine, soft sand beneath your feet. Or, bring your sandboard and chase an adrenaline rush by surfing the dipping sand hills.
