This lush nature reserve lies within sight of the world’s largest hydroelectric dam
The state park of Tatí Yupí is situated on the banks of the enormous Paraná River reservoir, which is the result of the largest dam in the world (and the most electricity-producing), the nearby Itaipu dam. The 2,245 hectare nature reserve lies just 3 km north of the city of Hernandarias on the Paraguayan-Brazilian border, and is an important hub for tourists and environmental researchers alike. The forests, which are undergoing flora and fauna enrichment programs, is home to many species of rodents, invertebrate reptiles, and ferns.Activities on the site include bike rides, ziplining, hiking and walking (there are many streams and waterfalls to find), photographic safaris, environmental educational talks, and horse-drawn cart rides through the forests. Entry is free of charge, subject to obtaining a permit at the Itaipu Binacional Centro de Recepcion de Visitas in Hernandarias.
