Malta
In the southeastern part of Malta, a mesmerising grotto and complex of sea caves are renowned for their enchanting blue hues.
On a sunny day at the Blue Grotto, the sunlight reflects off white sandy seafloors, illuminating the caves in breathtaking shades of blue. The complex consists of seven caves including the Honeymoon Cave, Cat’s Cave and the picturesque Reflection Cave. A remarkable main arch that stands at an impressive height of around 30 meters, under which visitors enjoy diving, snorkeling and swimming. The Blue Grotto was formed after centuries of waves crashing against the rugged cliffs, shaping the massive arch and giving rise to neighboring caves and rock formations. To experience the Blue Grotto at its best, it is recommended to visit during the summer months, particularly from early morning to midday when the sunlight enhances the vibrant blue hues. Embark on a traditional Maltese boat known as a luzzu, adorned with vibrant designs and markings, and be led through the sea caverns by skilled local fisherman. A viewpoint behind a tall stone wall provides an excellent vantage point to admire the cave complex and capture striking photographs of the orange limestone walls and radiant turquoise of the shallows.
