Antigua and Barbuda
Formerly known as Mount Obama from 2009 to 2016, this mountain stands as the highest pinnacle in the Shekerley Mountains on Antigua.
Boggy Peak, situated in the island’s southwest, reaches an impressive altitude of 402 meters. Dominating the landscape, its elevation makes it the tallest summit on Antigua. It finds its place within the Shekerley Mountains that stretch from Christian Valley to Falmouth Harbour, forming a southwest ridge. For a comprehensive trek, a nearly 6-mile loop kicks off in Old Road Village, near the Curtain Bluff resort. The path intensifies as it diverges from the road, offering a formidable ascent that may benefit from the guidance of an experienced leader. An alternative trail commences in Christian Valley, offering a shorter path to the summit, suitable for those seeking a quicker adventure. This area carries significant historical weight, having served as sugarcane plantations during the era of slavery. The name's origin traces back to tales spread by slave masters about the mythical Boogie Man residing in the mountains, discouraging escape attempts. These mountains became havens for runaways, offering them a life independent of enslavement.
