Established in 1830 as part of the Royal Prussian Higher Forestry College, the forest botanical garden in Eberswalde is one of the oldest in Europe. The garden was severely damaged during World War II, but has since been renovated and many new parts added such as the rock garden, herbaceous plants, and grasses, a pond or a marsh. Today, its collection comprises of more than 1200 native and exotic trees and shrubs, divided into thematic sections such as African, East Asian, alpine, or herb gardens. A special feature is the garden's geological trail highlighting the crystalline sedimentary rocks that were deposited in this location by ice age glaciers. With plenty of seating opportunities, beautiful paths, and rare plants, this place will provide opportunities to relax and reconnect with nature. It is open daily without charge.
