Brunico Kronplatz

Watched over by a medieval castle, this alpine town offers the best blend of tradition, modernity, and nature in the Dolomites.

About

Nestled on the slopes of the mighty Kronplatz, Brunico is steeped in alpine culture. In winter, visitors flock to the best and most modern ski resort in the region. But with 800 years of history, there's a lot more to Brunico than skiing and snowboarding. On the Kronplatz summit, you'll also find the Messner Mountain Museum Corones. Designed by the late Zaha Hadid, the museum offers a glimpse into the lives of mountaineers and unparalleled views of the South Tyrolean mountains. Then, just above the town, the medieval Schloss Bruneck castle houses the Messner Mountain Museum RIPA, dedicated to mountain cultures from around the world. In the Old Town below, the streets are lined with historic houses, and punctuated by charming churches. Throughout the year, Brunico hosts numerous markets, including the Stegener Market at the end of October, which is the largest market in Tyrol. If you prefer something more pastoral, pay a visit to the South Tyrolean Folklore Museum to experience a slice of tradtional rural life.
