When the nearby Buchlov Castle fell out of style, Buchlovice Chateau was commissioned as its replacement.
Built in the early 18th century and inhabited since 1707, Buchlovice Chateau was built as a copy of an Italian villa in Baroque style. The complex consists of two separate buildings, the ceremonial Lower Chateau, and the Upper Chateau used for service purposes, which are connected by an impressive courtyard. The once Italian-style gardens surrounding the property were expanded and altered in the English style in the first half of the 19th century, and are among the most valuable of their kind in the Czech Republic. Visitors to the chateau can admire the state rooms and chambers with their rich stucco and elaborately painted ceilings. The property is open from March through November, and provides visitors with an unforgettable view into a life of nobility in 18th-century Europe.
