Paraguay
This historic city is Paraguay's woodcrafting capital.
Situated on the northern end of the Caaguazú mountain range, 500 metres above sea level, this youthful and vibrant city is famous for it’s moniker “The Capital Of Wood”. It’s previously large logging operations may be a thing of the past but it’s legacy in woodcraft still lives on with many expert carpenters selling their wares on the final approach to the city centre. Here you can view and purchase high-quality furniture, toys, housing for pets, and other assorted wooden products. Also worth checking out is the Immaculate Conception Church. In 2008 the facade was adorned with three huge murals, a total of 60 square metres, by the artist Jorge Aguirre. The church is fronted by a pleasant paved and grassy area, and it is strikingly lit at night so that the beautiful paintings can be enjoyed throughout the whole day.
