Learn about the history of Normandy’s distinctive apple brandy at this 17th century, family-run distillery.
Norman apple cider has a history dating back 2000 years, but it wasn’t until the 15th century, with the invention of new pressing techniques that it began to receive greater acclaim. Eventually, this refined cider would be sipped by the kings of France, and thanks to its singularity, obtain the "Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée" - the same regulation that requires champagne to come from Champagne. On this traditional farm, half timbered houses from the 17th century house a family-owned distillery making exceptional ciders that have received over 600 awards. A guided tour introduces visitors to the manor, the various production elements, the ageing cellars, and the cider’s history, culminating in a tasting of the various products.
