Türkiye
This museum has a fascinating collection of trains from around the world, including the salon car used by Atatürk, the man who founded modern Turkey.
The Camlik Museum of Steam Locomotives was founded just as steam was being phased out in Turkey, meaning many of the trains on display here were added to the museum’s collection right as they were retired. The 33 steam locomotives on display were manufactured between 1891 to 1951 by company’s from around the world, and sit atop original train tracks from 1866. Visitors are free to climb aboard the trains, some of which have important cultural value, such as locomotive number 45501, which was involved in the deadliest train accident in Turkey, or the salon car used by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk during Aegean manoeuvres.
