Malaysia
Hike through the lush forest and search for migrating raptors in this wildlife sanctuary watched over by Malaysia’s oldest lighthouse.
The foundations for the lighthouse at Cape Rachado were first laid while the country was under Portuguese rule in the 17th century. 200 years later, a newer and larger structure was built atop a fort-like base. While you can't go inside the lighthouse, it's the starting point for exploring the cape. You can head down to one of several secret beaches, or following a winding walking path through the forest to see the local monkey tribe - just keep an eye on your belongings, they're bold! Cape Rachado is especially loved by bird watchers, who flock here in the spring to see migrating raptors make their way back to Japan, Northern China, Siberia, Korea, and Mongolia.
