Travel back in time to this former German family home, where the family’s traditional ways of life are preserved in the museum and tea room.
Cozy Castelinho Caracol was one of the first residences built in Canela at the beginning of the 20th Century by Pedro Carlos Franzen and Luiza Sommer Franzen, descendants of German immigrants. The house was built over two floors using local Araucaria wood amazingly without the use of nails! Their eldest daughter, Irene, lived in the house until 1980 when it was reinvented into a museum and tea room. Upon entering the well-preserved residence, you can appreciate the extraordinary architecture and explore the preserved family traditions and ways of life, including original utensils and paintings. Finish with a slice of Apfelstrudel in the tea room, a traditional Franzen family recipe made in the original wood stove. Castelinho Caracol is open daily between 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM and 2:20 PM - 5:40 PM. Admission tickets are not included in our price and must be purchased separately at the site entrance.
