Paraguay
No on really knows how this strange island manor emerged.
The unique Castillo El Peñón is a castle of sorts that sits atop a rock in the middle of the Paraguay River. Its construction is somewhat of a mystery and the reason for its peculiar location is unknown. Popular belief is that Captain Lazaron Aranda built the rocky fortress in the 1930s to hide away his son who had been afflicted with leprosy. Others will say it was used by the Navy to store weapons and food. To access Castillo El Peñón, you must hire a boat and boatman (~2 EUR). Explore the castle’s modest kitchen, bathroom, living room, and terrace before heading back to shore
