Latvia
This beautiful Baroque castle and its outbuildings showcase various facets of local culture.
Built in the 18th century, the Castle of the Earls of Platery is a charming ensemble of historic buildings that have each been transformed into distinct attractions. Visitors can’t enter the main castle building, but the beautiful Baroque facade and mansard roof paint a pretty enough picture on their own. In one of the historic outbuildings, visitors will find the museum of history and art, which exhibits documents, photographs, archaeological and ethnographic artefacts, and paintings to give a look at local history from multiple perspectives. Next door, in the House of Crafts, knitters, weavers, craftsmen, blacksmiths, and other Latgalian craftsmen share their skills with visitors.
