Indonesia
Nearly every resident of this little village is a master artisan creating gold and silver jewellery.
Celuk was a traditional craft village until the 20th century, when their gold and silversmiths began attracting international attention. The village has since evolved to become the epicenter of Bali’s jewellery trade, with nearly every resident skilfully creating jewellery. Today, visitors from around the world come to see these artisans at work, and pick up a precious souvenir from the source. The main showroom is worth visiting for the many unusual sculptures covering the facade. While it’s possible to take a tour of the workroom, the private craftsmen on the side-streets are even more interesting and usually offer a better deal.
