Through the centuries, this historic chateau's owners have been dedicated to the Gothic style.
Built in the 12th century as a defensive fortress, the bastion was damaged during the 15th century in the Hundred Years War. Its owner, Louis de Beaumont, Chamberlain to Louis XI, had the castle rebuilt as a Gothic noble residence. The castle’s 19th century owners were still smitten with the Gothic aesthetic, further decorating it in that distinctive style. Today visitors can walk the chateau grounds to admire the flamboyant Gothic embellishments that adorn the facade of this country estate - the sculpted balcony is particularly magnificent. A guided tour of the interior brings visitors through the noble rooms, fully furnished with historic art and furniture, and a great amount of wood panelling, while the friendly guides share the estate’s history.
