Netherlands
Step into Dutch culture at this historic farmhouse, where things are still done the old-fashioned way.
Housed in a 19th century farmhouse, the Clara Maria Cheese & Clog Farm Wooden is renowned for their traditional wooden clogs and Gouda cheese. Clara Maria still makes clogs the old-fashioned way, using antique machines. Not only can visitors see how they’re made, but they can get involved in their creation, all while learning about the shoe’s 800 year history. The farm’s original barn is now used to make the world-famous Gouda cheese, starting with milk from the farm’s own cows. The farm still makes Gouda the traditional way, by putting the milk in a large tub and adding a mix of herbs and spices. After learning the history and time-honored production methods of these iconic products, visitors can step into the gift shop for their own slice of Dutch culture.
