Step into a Monet or two as you walk through the gardens that inspired some of his most famous works.
In 1883, when Monet and his family moved to Giverny, the artist began a landscaping project that would define his career. First, he created a flower garden that was planted in wild clumps according to color, and then left to grow freely. Ten years later, he purchased the plot of land next door and created the water-garden, with its famous bridge and lilies. Today, visitors can walk through both gardens where they’ll see the real-life settings that inspired some of Monet’s most iconic paintings. In his house, painted to suit his palette, and decorated with Japanese prints, visitors can get a look into the painter’s life through his salon, dining room, bedroom, the studio.
