Clifton Hall Great House

Once fallen into disrepair, this grand plantation house found a new lease on life after an ambitious restoration mission.

About

Clifton Hall Great House, a historic gem with a rich narrative, has been featured in various esteemed publications and documentaries. After falling into new hands, the renovation has made it a meticulously rejuvenated estate that invites both locals and tourists to relish its historical allure. Clifton Hall's story spans centuries and embraces cultural influences. Dating back to 1656, it is one of Barbados' oldest and largest Great Houses. Ferdinand Palaeologus, a direct descendant of the Byzantine emperor Constantine, once owned it. This storied past makes it an enchanting locale for hosting family events and destination weddings. Notable features like Italian marble on the verandah and renovated chimneys and fire ovens unveil its historical and architectural significance. Two original wings exude a Medieval charm, while a later addition in the 18th century introduces Caribbean-Georgian aesthetics. These wings converge around a spacious courtyard and pool, offering a captivating ambiance for guests to savor their remarkable surroundings. Open Monday to Friday from 12PM to 11PM and Saturday to Sunday from 2PM to 11PM. A $50 tour must be booked by emailing info@cliftonhallgreathouse.com.
