The walls of this photogenic canyon are covered with swirling colors and unusual patterns.
The Colored Canyon was formed millions of years ago when Sinai was part of the sea floor by water eating away at the sandstone and limestone. 800 meters long and nearly 40 meters deep in some places, it’s immediately apparent where the canyon gets its name: in some places prismatic colors are swirled into the walls, while other sections have been carved into rolling waves. The canyon is a prime destination for photographers you can take advantage of the unique lighting created by the canyon’s narrow walls. As the colored canyon is out in the desert, remember to wear appropriate footwear and bring plenty of water with you.
