Copenhagen

From architecture to food to chairs, the wealth of culture probably has a large part in making Denmark’s bicycle-crazy capital so happy.

About

Starting as a humble Viking fishing village, Copenhagen became the capital of Denmark in the early 15th century, and has remained one of the most important settlements in Scandinavia ever since. The multi-faceted city can be hard to describe as anything other than “cool”. Among the colorful historic buildings and royal palaces that dot the the greenest urban center in the world, you’ll find a mouth-watering food scene with 15 Michelin-starred restaurants, including Noma, voted the best in the world on three occasions, not to mention the painfully-cool streetwear labels, world-famous furniture and lighting, and hand-made ceramics and glassware. Then there are the wealth of museums ranging from Viking artefacts to Danish chairs in a Baroque hospital to the largest collection Egyptian sculpture in northern Europe, and Scandinavia's finest collection of Islamic art. And who can forget Tivoli, the endearing amusement park said to have inspired Disney World?
