New Zealand
Created by miners, sustained by fruit farmers, this small town has become famous for some of the freshest fruit in the south of NZ.
It may not be apparent today, but Cromwell’s roots are rich in history from the Otago Gold Rush in the 1800s. In ‘Old Cromwell Town’ you can learn about this unique history, which had a great impact on the Otago area, and you can even go panning for gold to see if there is any still left in the river! Now, Cromwell is now known for its production of fruit. You can visit famous fruit stalls such as, Jones Family Fruit Stall or Webb’s Fruit, and see for yourself how Cromwell got its name: “Fruit Bowl of the South.” Or, if you’re into something more adrenaline fueled, check out the Highlands Race Track, or the jet boat on the Kawarau River. Whether it's go karts or speed boats, your heart will surely be left pumping! Then, wind down with a stroll along Lake Dunstan, which is set along a lush backdrop of hills, that is one of the more beautiful sites in this town.
