Cueva Can Marça

In the recess of a cliff in Port de Sant Miquel, a stunning natural cave system with a notorious history hides geological gems.

About

Over 100,000 years ago, Cueva Can Marca was formed through blistering ice ages and tropical climates into a fossilized state of chambers and stalagmites. The cave was found by smugglers, who would hoist their chests of contraband up from their boats through a large opening above sea level. Hundreds of years later, the cave was discovered in the 1970’s and later transformed into an unmissable tourist attraction. Begin at a viewing point over the island of Murada and the Balansat tower or start your journey with an aperitif at the terrace-bar. Once inside, begin the guided group tour through the Entrance Chamber, the Temple of Buddha and Waterfall Chamber, where water, sound and light installations recreate how the cave would have appeared long ago. As you walk past the cavernous walls, see the red and black route marks left behind by smugglers. The Lake of Desires will steal your breath away with its fluorescein-treated water. Visit throughout the year during Summer from 10:30am-7:30pm and Winter from 11:00am-5:00pm.
