Slow down in this sleepy rural town where VW Beetles are the preferred mode of transport.
Surrounded by rolling hills, sleepy Cunha is a far cry from the bustle of São Paulo. Here, you'll still see the occasional vaquero clip-clopping along the cobbled streets on horseback, and you'll definitely see colorful Volkswagen Beetles parked in front of the pastel houses on every street. It's estimated that there's a bug for every 17 people in Cunha. Between the slow pace of life, quaint churches and and historic cars, exploring Cunha definitely feels like you've been transported back in time. If you want to support the local economy (and need a souvenir), be sure to stop by the Casa do Artesão (Craftsman House), for some handmade ceramics. If you'd rather your visit focus on views of the countryside, head to the low-key O Lavandário lavender farm. It's not like the sprawling fields you see on Instagram, but it's a great place to take in the views and maybe grab a bite at the cafe.
