Devil's Den Prehistoric Spring

Illuminated by a window to the sky, this water-filled cavern offers one of the most unique SCUBA or snorkelling experiences in the country.

About

The Devil's Den Prehistoric Spring is what’s known by geologists as a “karst window”, or more simply put, a cavern over a subterranean river where the roof has collapsed. In the case of this primordial spring, the constant 72 °F (22 °C) degrees water temperature creates a column of steam in colder weather, which reminded early settlers of a chimney from Hell. Since the 1990s, the crystal clear waters have been a training ground for SCUBA diving. The cavern’s ancient rock formations with stalactites and fossil beds make it one of the most unique dive locations in the country! And if you’re not a diver, don’t worry! You can also rent snorkel equipment to enjoy the surreal experience. Please note: it is not possible to just swim in the Devil’s Den. For more information, please visit devilsden.com
