The Dilmun Burial Mounds are an extraordinary display of ancient burial traditions from the Dilmun and Umm al-Nar cultures, with approximately 350,000 ancient grave mounds created over thousands of years by the local population. The mounds make up one of the largest cemeteries in the ancient world, covering several square kilometers and 21 archaeological sites in the western part of the island. The tombs vary in size, with some containing pottery, stone stamp seals, ivory objects and copper weapons. The ‘Royal Tombs’ stand out as the oldest and largest, boasting up to 15 meters in height with elaborate burial chambers adorned with valuable items and artifacts.
