Scenic walks, picturesque falls and panoramic mountain views await in this expansive scenic reserve
Known as one of the most beautiful lakes in New Zealand, Lake Kaniere is located in a Scenic Reserve just south of Hokitika spanning more than 7,000 hectares. The lake itself is 8km long, 2km wide and 195 metres at its deepest point. Whether you’re into watersports or fishing, cycling or walking or simply just relaxing in a lush natural environment, Lake Kaniere has something for everyone! The mountainous landscape is the ideal backdrop for a picnic on a warm day and the warm water will be begging you to dip your toes. On the edge of the lake is the Dorothy Falls, a 64m drop multi-tiered waterfall with an enticing swimming hole at its base. It is picture-perfect, surrounded by native bush and the perfect spot for a photo opportunity. You won’t be clicking your heels to return home at Dorothy Falls!
