This spacious park provides a safe and caring home for lions rescued from horrendous conditions in captivity.
The Drakenstein Lion Park opened in 1994 to provide a safe home to rescued lions that couldn’t be released into the wild. The lions here come from around the world, and were saved from brutal treatment by zoos, circuses, the illegal pet trade, and even hunting rings. The park is large enough that you might not see every animal, but the walkways around the enclosures guarantee you’ll see at least some of the residents, which include over 20 lions, not to mention 5 White Lions, 3 White Lion Cubs, and 2 Bengal Tigers. The best chance to see all the cats is on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday at 4PM when they all congregate for Feeding Time, though the park is an amazing experience regardless of when you visit.
