Drottningholm Palace

This UNESCO World Heritage Site has housed the Swedish Royal Family for decades in its lavishly designed interior and stunning garden grounds.

About

The stunning Drottningholm Palace has stood proudly on the island of Lovön in Stockholm since the 17th century and has received a World Heritage Site listing for its unique blend of architectural styles and historical significance. It was originally built for Queen Hedwig Eleanora in the late 1600s and is the current home of the Swedish Royal Family. The palace features a magnificent façade inspired by the Palace of Versailles in France, with a central section that is decorated with pilasters, statues, and reliefs - which you can walk through at your own leisure or on a guided tour. The grounds include the famous Palace Theater, one of the best-preserved 18th-century theaters in Europe. It features original sets, costumes, and machinery and is still used for performances today by the Drottningholm Theater Orchestra. You can also wander through the 18th century Chinese Pavilion, a symbol of the relations between Europe and Asia with a unique blend of architectural styles. Drottningholm Palace is open year round.
