Namibia
This giant red sand dune is a Namibian icon that rewards the tenacious with tremendous views.
Located at the 45th kilometer on the road from Sesriem to Sossusvlei, the Dune 45 viewpoint is aptly named. The dune itself, at 170 meters, isn’t the largest in Namibia, but it is the most easily accessible of the country’s sand mountains. While the dune and the surrounding desert are a gorgeous sight on their own, hiking to the top adds a memorable experience to your visit. While much easier than ‘Big Daddy’, you’ll still want to have lots of water with you and undertake this endeavor in the early morning as the rising sun quickly raises temperatures. If you need a quick way day, you can slide down the side for a high speed descent.
