Durango

With an Old West Town and a history of cowboy debauchery, this city’s rich history is still alive and well today.

About

Durango has a distinct Western flair with many residents closely associated with cattle culture and decked out in cowboy boots and hats. In addition to historical ties to battles and broncos, many contemporary Western films were shot on location in this desert landscape. An old film set has even been converted into an Old West Town that regularly puts on Western-inspired performances each day and serves as an amusement park of sorts. Learn about the town’s wild past at Museo Francisco Villa or explore the historic downtown, the largest in Northern Mexico, which is dominated by the Neoclassical cathedral. You can even scale the cathedral's bell tower for a bird’s-eye-view of the surrounding historic buildings.
