Egeskov Castle

According to legend, it took an entire forest to build the foundations of Europe’s best-preserved moat castle.

About

Egeskov castle was built in 1554 on the site of a 15th century manor. Its name Egeskov, literally “oak forest”, comes from the countless oaken piles it is built upon - allegedly an entire forest’s worth! The building itself is a stunning example of late Gothic architecture, built using the red bricks characteristic to Northern Europe. While still lived in the ground and first floor of the castle have been opened to visitors, offering a glimpse at some stunning decor, antique art and furniture, and a huge collection of hunting trophies. One of the highlights is Titania’s Palace - a decadent, room-sized dollhouse. Surrounding the castle are 15 hectares of manicured and landscape gardens, and an impressive museum of antique vehicles.
