One congenial hermit has carved an amazing stone mural over his decades spent living in the mountains.
El Jalacate is the work of Alberto Gutierrez Giron, a man who’s been living alone in the mountains since the 70s. Over this time, he’s slowly sculpted a 40-meter-long stretch of cliff near his house into a giant stone mural, inspired by one he saw in a dream as a child. The welcoming hermit is happy to show off the natural beauty of his home to visitors, pointing out the many orchids, fruit trees, and coffee bushes. While he loves nature, his baby is really the stone carvings, which depict everything from African animals, to Jesus, an Aztec sun, and his perception of downtown USA.
