According to legend, the El Totumo Mud Volcano used to spew molten lava until a clever priest poured holy water into the caldera, turning it into a more benevolent mud bath. Though it might look like an unassuming pile of dirt from afar, climbing the stairs to the rim reveals a 15-foot-wide pool of naturally heated, mineral-rich mud where you can enjoy a therapeutic bath. Once you’re done with your mud spa, head down the slightly-slippery exit stairs to rinse off in the nearby lagoon - the local women will make sure you’re scrubbed clean and baby-soft.
