Paraguay
With constantly pleasant weather, a riverside boardwalk, and a wide, sandy beach, it's no wonder this historic city is becoming a popular retreat.
Encarnacion was founded as a Jesuit mission called Anunciación de Itapua the South bank of the Parana River in 1615. Like almost every town in South America, the heart of the city is its main plaza and church. The Catedral Nuestra Senora is the largest church in town, though still elegantly modest. Encarnacion is unlike most cities in that its Plaza de Armas park has a Japanese garden! But the most popular past-time here is strolling along the costanera, the city’s riverside boardwalk, where you can enjoy views of the river and grab some cheap street-food. Right at the center of the costanera, you’ll find the San Jose beach, where you can soak up the sun, or take a sunset stroll on the beach.
