Bulgaria
The Bulgarian Revival, and its traditions, has been preserved and restored in this idyllic village-cum-museum.
Opened in 1964, the Ethnographic museum Etar was the first museum of its kind in Bulgaria. Spanning 7 hectares, 50 sites, ranging from a water wheel to houses and workshops transport visitors back to the 18th century, when Bulgaria began to reassert its identity. Walking through this quaint, colorful village, visitors will see the day-to-day objects that were integral to life 200 years ago. Along with the traditional artefacts, artisans practice traditional crafts on site, allowing visitors to enjoy a fresh-baked pastry, or purchase handmade crafts.
