Australia
This quiet town has a surprisingly distinguished history, being the site of an infamous bank robbery and home to multiple Victoria Cross recipients.
Founded in the mid-19th century, Euroa gained national fame in 1878 when the notorious Ned Kelly and gang (brother Dan and Steve Hart) robbed the Euroa branch of the National Bank. Aside from this, the town's had a quiet history, mostly growing in the 1930s when squatters set up runs in the area to take advantage of the ever-important wool industry. Today, a heritage walk (get a map from the Euroa Hub) will guide you down Binney St., past historic buildings and charming cafes to the main heritage landmarks: the old Post Office, Court House, and bank. To learn more about the town's history, pop into the Farmers' Arms Hotel Museum, or visit the Victoria Cross Memorial Park (there have only been 91 recipients in Australia, and Euroa has been home to 3 of them). If you prefer the great outdoors, you can enjoy a quiet stroll through the Euroa Arboretum to enjoy the gardens or to go fishing for trout.
