Fantail Falls

The Haast Pass is blessed with an abundance of great waterfalls, but few are as easily accessible as this one. An easy 10 minutes round trip will take you to the 23 metre cascade, beautifully crashing over the rocks to the crystal clear waters of the Haast river. With care you can wade to the otherside of the river to the base of the falls but the view from the platform is perfectly suitable for some great photos. There is a bit of visitors tradition of building towers of stones on the river bank - why not try your hand at some rock art and make a contribution? Don’t forget, in summer remember to bring insect repellent to ward off possible sandflies.
