This summer-market town is best known for its peppers and picturesque river.
The regional capital and gateway to the lakes region, Florina enjoyed a Renaissance around 1893 when it was connected to Thessaloniki by rail. This boom is evident throughout the city in the eclectic early 20th century architecture. The best way to enjoy the city’s beauty is a walk along the scenic river promenade. Among the buildings on the left bank, visitors will find the Modern Art Museum, and the House of Voyiatzis, where Angelopoulos filmed many scenes for “The Beekeeper”. On the opposite side, stands one of the city’s most impressive mansions - the “House of Peios”. When you’re ready for a break, but still want to enjoy the view, stop by a cafe for some coffee or to sample some of the local specialties.
